As many of you know, I have lost my two heart dogs to very rare circumstances. Angel was my first golden bought in 2003. She died one week from whelping her 12 puppies due to Hydrops Amnion in 2006. It was devastating. You can see more about Angel on her page. I owe so much of what Golden Clover is about to her and her breeder, Julie Speer. LoverBoy was purchased from the Corrals less than a year later when I was looking for a Hobo son and they happened to have saved a puppy back for Beth Johnson. We ended up with a special dog. Thank you God for that! Losing LoverBoy this spring 2011, was just beyond heartbreaking. For six weeks we fought hard to try to figure out what was wrong with him. Purdue vets worked so very hard. He died in May from Mesothelioma which they called a "bad luck" cancer. Anyway, for a year I had planned to breed his daughter ( LoverBoy x Seraph) to Mister DJ, which would be a line breeding on Woodie amongst other goldens. The last week, when Sweetie actually came into season, I discovered that Angel's nephew had his clearances and was available as stud. This was a major last minute decision but here I was, looking at my original Dream litter possibly happening! Angel's sister, Wedge, is Lincoln's dam and LoverBoy is Sweetie's sire. Oh my goodness, this will be a very special litter for our entire family. Even though Savannah was only 3 when Angel died, she remembers her and she has been through all the disappointments we have endured to continue Golden Clover. We have had to return bitches that did not work for us, we had a beautiful dog, Dreamer, develop elbow dysplasia, Seraph had to have an emergency spay, and one of the hardest, was Wynne, a Wedge daughter. She has moderate to severe hip dysplasia! Then our last golden bought for Savannah to show ended up with elbow and hip dysplasia. All of these special dogs have been placed in very, very loving homes (except for Spoof as we are still looking for a good home for her) but we just kept having set-back upon set-back. Savannah and Dakota were involved with LoverBoy and his death was very, very hard for them. Now, we have our Dream Litter in Sweetie x Lincoln. I pray for protection for Sweetie and the puppies. I have placed our first photo of the pups on the website! It is their ultrasound photo taken today. Here we go.....off on another adventure. Hopefully, it will be a wonderful Dream adventure!
Dare I Dream?
A Breeder's Dream: Thank-you Angel
I have been sitting on this for a while but it does not lessen the joy I have in announcing this win, but more importantly honoring a beautiful girl that inspired us to work towards our dream. Here is our story.
Janet Brant, a new person in the world of show dogs, entrusted Golden Clover and I as her mentor, to help her own her very first show dog. It has been so much fun helping her learn the ropes and watch her grow and help her through her anxiety and have fun.
Last weekend, at the Auburn In. shows, we entered her little boy, Golden Clover's Carmel Legend, "Legend". He is out of our CH. Lakesyde's I Wanna Kiss CGC "LoverBoy" and Laurell's Goodnight Sweet Angel, "Seraph". I told her to expect nothing but a squirrelly little boy learning and having fun in the ring. Well, with Derrick at the helm, he won his class. But Janet got lost and missed his class! I told her he won his class so she could see him show in winners. She took him to Starbucks, so they could have some quiet time together as she had missed him so much while he had spent a week with us for some training. The next day, she was there in plenty of time and he won his class again. Then, the most amazing thing happened. This little boy, just 6 months old won, taking 2 pts and just shy of a major. I had to leave her during the breed to go watch Savannah in the Juniors ring. (She is in Open Juniors now, 9 years old, and took 2nd and 3rd!) We came back to see her beaming and holding a handful of ribbons, including a Best of Winner's ribbon! Legend had beat some very nice dogs including Monica's and Sue's boy and Cortney's lovely bitch BBE who was WB. (F.Lee went BB and GR 3) I am so happy for her, and very humbled at this experience. LB and Seraph now have two pups pointed (Gldn Clvr's Frodo, Lord of the Ring "Oliver" owned by Sabrina Prim is the other) and we feel so blessed. But that is just a small part of the story.
I don't know if you noticed, but Seraph's name reflects something very special. Angel, Can. Ch. Splendid's Golden Clover Deal CGC, my heart dog, was our first show golden that died 1 week prior to having her 12 pups due to Hydrops. Seraph was born at the time of when Angel's puppies would have been born and we purchased Seraph to continue what Angel had started. "Goodnight Sweet Angel" is a name that Megan Strickland helped us come up with that helps us to continue to "Honor Angel" Many of you know our story and instead of giving up, which is what I wanted to do, but Leo said we much go on, we went on "In Honor of Angel" and that has been our motto. So, our breeding program is now on its way, In Honor of Angel, and we have met many wonderful people through our puppies that LB and Seraph have given us and through the use of LB as stud and of course our show buddies and now in Junior Showmanship. I am so glad that we chose to honor Angel, buy another foundation girl, in Seraph, and continue on this journey that we started with Angel. Thank-you Angel. Your buddy, LoverBoy, CH Lakesyde's I Wanna Kiss CGC, is helping us fulfill the dream too. I know you are watching and wagging your tail and of course smiling!
These are my thoughts as I go through this life enjoying my family and my goldens!
